Born in Colombia, Vargas draws influence from the Renaissance and Baroque periods to cast a connection with our behaviour in modern society. Vargas’s abstract work directly references the old masters while simultaneously conveying one’s psychological state. In essence, each painting gives access to subconscious memories and emotions. The pieces appear to be either still or in motion; the fluid brush strokes invite the viewer to reflect on their memories and encourage introspection.
