Untitled IV is a large-format female portrait in profile, acrylic on dibond (an aluminium composite panel), 100 x 100 cm. The figure is pressed toward the right edge of the canvas, chin lifted, face turned upward into an open mustard ground. Behind her, the hair fills the entire left half of the panel, a dense mass of black threaded with sky blue, coral, lavender and ochre, the colour fragments pushed close together and the paint thick enough to cast its own shadow. The composition is deliberately asymmetric: weight and movement on one side, stillness and space on the other.
The sky blue strokes running through the hair are the most saturated marks in the painting, brighter than anything else on the canvas. A small tasselled gold and red earring sits at the jaw, three marks at most, holding the point where the dense left side meets the open right. The chin is raised with the same unapologetic quality Muse returns to across her practice. "My art is a homage to the resilience and beauty of women," she has said. Here that conviction is carried entirely by posture.
