About artist

Joseph Kaliher

Joseph Kaliher was born in Texas and shortly thereafter moved to Europe with his mother who married an Italian Duke, Emanuele Canevaro di Zoagli. He attended boarding school in Leicester, England. Later he moved to Italy, where he studied with Maurizio Martelli, renowned Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence and Venice. Joseph then attended the worlds' famous Institute Superieur de Peinture Van Der Kelen et Longelain in Brussels, where he graduated at top of his class.

An Italin art critic described Joseph Kaliher's work as “apparently happy, however dense with symbolism and profound analysis upon the human soul. Joseph Kaliher could be defined as a real new master of the New Surrealistic Symbolism”. He indeed is a particular artist, born in an American hippie community where he spent his childhood traveling around the world. This lifestyle has clearly influenced Joseph’s artworks. The artists' palette seems to have inherited those colorful hippies' vibes, of exploring the issues of freedom and peace. Kaliher's works are a full immersion into a perfect pictorial technique, enhanced by perspective distortion and dreamlike atmosphere.

Joseph's talent and training, along with his multi-faceted personality, allowed him to work in many fields of the visual arts, from interior design to portraiture and fashion. Among some of Joseph’s collectors are Paloma Picasso, Vittorio Sgarbi and the Ferragamo Family.

Joseph's works have been exhibited in many prestigious museums, art galleries, art fairs and auctions. In 2007 he held an important exhibition at the Museuo delle Regole, in Cartina.

In 2016 several of his works are shown in a group exhibitions as a part of the genre defined as: Magical Realism. This show will be a traveling exhibit that will be hosted in several major cities across Europe.
In the Spring of 2016 Joseph was invited to show his work in the museum Michetti, during the Carneval of Abruzzo, an important event that is known for hosting some of the most significant contemporary artists on the global scale. Shortly afterwards Joseph will be preparing an exhibition in a group show hosted at Palazzo Medici Rccardi, right in the heart of the beautiful city of Florence.

The artist currently lives and works in Milan.
