We journeyed through the impact of his work on audiences, the vibrant world of exhibitions, and his profound reflections on the art of creation. Join us as we embarked on a captivating exploration of Martic's creative journey, a testament to the boundless possibilities of art. Below is the interview.

What initially sparked your interest in sculpture, and at what age did you start creating?

"I started creating at a very young age, around 8 years old, in my father's workshop. I made my toys out of wood, and later, when I learned how to weld, I modified my bike and created abstract shapes.

At 24, I went to London for a year and a half. I spent a lot of time in museums, especially the Tate Gallery, where I discovered the works of great artists like Rodin, Turner, and Dali. They planted a seed in me.

When I was 30, I had a very serious car accident, which prompted me to change my professional direction and return to creation. I became an artistic ironworker for 10 years. At 38, I created my first sculpture, and I haven't stopped since."

Do you draw inspiration from everyday life and the people you interact with, and if so, how do you translate those experiences into your art?

"Yes, I find inspiration in the people around me, especially women. Their strength, weaknesses, past, journeys, and, of course, their physical forms—everything is inspiring."

Can you share a story of a specific sculpture that was directly inspired by a meaningful personal event or encounter?

“A young woman contacted me. She suffers from Fibromyalgia, she was writing a book on this subject and asked me if I was interested in making a sculpture on this theme. Representing illness and suffering was a very complex exercise. But “Dame Fibro” was born.”

How did you discover your preferred medium or technique for creating sculptures?

“My grandfather had a forge and an anvil, my father had a welder, grinders and lots of metal working tools. So it was natural for me to work in this medium.”

Can you discuss the evolution or development of themes in your art over the course of your artistic career?

“I started by working steel, then for 5 years, stainless steel. The themes are recurrent, but the technique evolves. I am more and more precise, I pay more attention to movement, curves, anatomy.”

Are there any artists or art movements that have influenced the themes you choose to explore?

“Bernini, Rodin but also Catalano for his work on the void. Additionally, all the strangers who create and inspire artists mutually.”

How do you track and measure your progress and growth as an artist, both personally and professionally?

"Experience comes with time. Now, I sculpt my works without the need for a model, sketches, or preparatory work. Personally, I have gained more confidence, but professionally, I still have doubts."

Can you discuss any experiences where audience engagement has led to collaborations or opportunities for your art career?

“Exhibitions are always openings to the other. Meetings are enriching and often bring unexpected opportunities.”

How do you see exhibitions as a platform for engaging in dialogues and discussions about your work and its themes?

“The exhibitions where I receive the public are a very good way to see the reactions of visitors. Dialogue makes me move forward, it often puts words to feelings and opens spaces for creation.”

Thank you for your time. Finally, do you have any final thoughts or advice for emerging artists or art enthusiasts who may be inspired by your work?

“Committing to the artistic path is very exciting but the expected result is not always there. You must never doubt, you must always go to the end of yourself in each work.”
