Three Artistic Visions: Eclectic Gallery in The Bite Magazine

Alexey Golovin, Johnny Morant and Carina Wagenaar for START Art Fair

The Bite Magazine featured three artists represented by Eclectic Gallery in its Autumn/Winter 2021, Issue 30: Alexey Golovin, Johnny Morant and Carina Wagenaar. The dedicated artist profiles were published in connection with the gallery’s participation in START Art Fair, introducing readers to three very different artistic practices.

The feature on Alexey Golovin explored his technically accomplished oil paintings and his fascination with history and Greek mythology. The magazine highlighted the way Golovin brings together classical traditions and contemporary ideas through detailed figurative compositions, still lifes and landscapes, with particular attention to light, perspective and depth.

Johnny Morant’s profile focused on his contemporary figurative painting and his reinterpretation of traditional subjects through fragmentation, pixelation and unexpected imagery. The article discussed works inspired by historic paintings alongside his recurring astronaut figures, which explore humanity’s relationship with progress, the environment and the future.

The issue also introduced Dutch artist Carina Wagenaar and her sculptural medallions, described as three-dimensional works inspired by history, heritage and culture. Created using found and recycled materials beneath semi-convex acrylic glass, the works combine influences from art, fashion and design. The magazine identified both Wagenaar and Morant as Eclectic Gallery artists and directed readers to the gallery’s Newman Street space.

Together, the three profiles presented the breadth of Eclectic Gallery’s programme around START Art Fair, moving from Golovin’s classically informed painting to Morant’s contemporary narratives and Wagenaar’s highly detailed sculptural objects.
