Cuban Cinema in Frames: An Exhibition Presented in Support of London Latino Film Festival

19 November - 8 December 2026
Overview

Eclectic Gallery presents Cuban Cinema in Frames, an exhibition of original Cuban film posters at its gallery in Fitzrovia, central London, from 19 November to 8 December 2026. Hand screen-printed in Havana and supplied directly from the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), each poster comes with an official ICAIC stamp and certificate of authenticity. All works are available to purchase.

Founded in 1959, ICAIC transformed the film poster into an art form in its own right, commissioning bold, hand screen printed designs from some of Cuba's most celebrated graphic artists. Rather than relying on film stills or star portraits, Cuban designers distilled each film into a single striking image, drawing on pop art, photomontage and abstraction. These posters are now recognised internationally as part of Cuba's cultural heritage, and ICAIC's 1960 to 1980 poster collection was inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in 2023.

The exhibition brings together work by René Azcuy Cárdenas, Antonio Fernández Reboiro, Rafael Morante, Pepe Menéndez, Julio Eloy, Ernesto Ferrand, Arturo Santana and Nelson Ponce. Highlights include Azcuy's Besos Robados and El Chicuelo, Reboiro's Harakiri, Menéndez's Cuba Libre, Ferrand's poster for Fresa y Chocolate and Morante's Cinemateca de Cuba, alongside the official 2026 festival poster by Nelson Ponce. Each poster measures 76 by 51 centimetres.

Eclectic Gallery has built the exhibition in support of the London Latino Film Festival (LoLaFF), the first festival of its kind in the United Kingdom, which takes place across London from 2 to 6 October 2026. The festival has made the exhibition possible by bringing these rare, officially authenticated posters from ICAIC to London for audiences and collectors to see and own. Their arrival is particularly significant at a time when Cuba is facing a severe economic and energy crisis.

The exhibition reflects the gallery's own approach, which it calls Eco-Art, or Art for Living: the belief that art in a living space shapes how we feel and even how we think. A poster on the wall is a constant presence, and it works on us more deeply than we expect, setting the mood of a room and quietly influencing the people in it every day, whether or not anyone is consciously looking at it. The gallery team is on hand throughout the exhibition to advise visitors and collectors on choosing work that will live well in their home or space.
