Latin Narratives: Distant & Familiar

Eclectic Gallery presents Latin Narratives: Distant & Familiar, an exhibition of contemporary Latin American art at its gallery in Fitzrovia, central London, running from 24 September to 12 October 2026. The exhibition brings together five Latin American artists represented by the gallery, each offering a distinct perspective shaped by place, memory, identity and contemporary life.

Eclectic Gallery has built the exhibition in support of the London Latino Film Festival (LoLaFF), which takes place across London from 2 to 6 October 2026. The festival is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom, with around 60 feature and short films by Latin American filmmakers and filmmakers of the diaspora, and an opening night at the Barbican. Latin Narratives runs before, during and after the festival, giving audiences a place to continue the conversation beyond the cinema.

At its heart, the exhibition creates a dialogue between visual art and cinema. Both are forms of storytelling that capture the experiences, cultures and perspectives of Latin America. A film unfolds over time; a painting holds a single moment. Placed side by side, they show how the same stories of home, migration, belonging and change can be told through movement and through stillness.

Through painting and mixed visual languages, the exhibition brings together artists of different generations and backgrounds. Together, the works build a bridge between art and film, image and narrative, the familiar and the distant.

Featuring works by Boris OA, Caio Locke, José Antonio Ochoa, Juan Carlos Navarro and Max Pedreira.

The exhibition also reflects the gallery's own approach, which it calls Eco-Art, or Art for Living: the belief that art is something to live with, not only to look at. A painting in a home or a workplace is always present, quietly shaping the mood and energy of the space and the people in it, whether or not anyone is consciously looking at it. For that reason, the gallery believes that not every work

belongs in a room lived in every day, and that choosing art is as much about how it will feel over time as how it looks on first sight.

Latin Narratives brings this thinking to stories from Latin America. The works invite visitors to consider not only what each piece says, but how it might live alongside them. The gallery team is on hand throughout the exhibition to advise visitors and collectors on finding work that suits their home or space.

Eclectic Gallery has specialised in contemporary British and international art since 2017. Located at 16 Newman Street, a short walk from Tottenham Court Road station, the gallery is open to the public Monday to Saturday.
